Grind setting and particle distribution turn a roasted bean into a brewable signal. Grind Lab adds evidence without uploading your photo.
Brew Assist records the result. Intelligence connects the signals and proposes one explainable change for your next cup.
GRIND LAB SCAN · OPTIONAL EVIDENCE
Photograph coffee grounds on the Baristuno calibration mat. Grind Lab measures particle size on your device, then lets you connect the reading to the exact brew you want to improve.

LEARN AS YOU BREW
Plain-language explanations appear beside the decision they support. Open the deeper lesson only when you want it.
A 1:16 ratio means 16 grams of water for every gram of coffee. Start with the recipe, then adjust by taste.
Learn about recipes →Finer coffee usually extracts faster; coarser coffee extracts slower. Change one step and keep the rest stable.
Learn about grinding →Sour can indicate too little extraction; bitter can indicate too much. Baristuno treats this as a clue, not a verdict.
Learn about taste →D50 is the middle particle size: half of the measured coffee is smaller and half is larger. Use it to compare your own settings—not as a universal perfect number.

Before you shoot
Flavor and brew projections are heuristics from the size distribution alone. Detection floor ≈ 100 µm. Method adapted from Jonathan Gagné's open-source coffeegrindsize (MIT). Grind analysis is free without an account; saving a report needs one.

Portability & recovery
Create a complete Baristuno backup, restore an older backup, or bring brew history from another journal. Imports merge safely and never delete existing records.
Profile, brews, coffees, recipes, experiments, water, equipment and grind reports.
Versions 1–7 are migrated to the current structure before anything is written.
Import Beanconqueror JSON/ZIP exports or a broadly compatible brew-history CSV.
Import is additive: matching backup IDs are updated, while journal imports create new records. Files are read on this device and are not uploaded as files. Account deletion still removes your stored data and sign-in permanently.

Step 1 of 5
Choose the method first so Baristuno can show the right setup and timer.
Step 2 of 5
Choose an active lot or a coffee from the catalogue. Freshness and remaining weight are connected automatically for your own lots.
Step 3 of 5
Load a saved recipe or enter the essential controls for this cup.
Dose is the dry coffee; yield is the brewed coffee or water target. Their relationship controls concentration more clearly than either number alone.
Technique
Step 4 of 5
Review the plan, then open the focused timer. Finishing the timer opens one short result screen before the brew is saved.
Step 5 of 5
Capture the result while it is fresh. This is the information Brew IQ uses to make the next brew more useful.
Brew history
Find a cup, repeat it, or compare a filtered set with Brew IQ.
Recipe book
Save a method once, guide the timer from it, then brew it again without rebuilding the form.

Useful intelligence
Recommendations show their sample size and confidence. Baristuno describes patterns in what you logged; it does not pretend correlation is certainty.
One cup can be noisy. Confidence rises when several comparable brews point in the same direction, so repeating can be a better experiment than changing immediately.
Your rated brews, coffee, recipe and measurements—never invented certainty.
Start with the recommendation below. It changes one variable and shows its evidence.
Experiments, water, calibration and economics stay available as deeper tools.
